My Little Massage Therapists

h1 Sunday, October 21st, 2007

My big kids are very concerned with making sure I feel okay and am comfortable. No one has told them to do this, but they clearly view pregnancy as a “delicate condition.” Of course if your mom was nauseas all the time and threw up a few times a day you’d probably view pregnancy as a delicate condition, too.

I’m definitely not complaining. For the last two evenings Ani has volunteered to give me a massage and brush my hair. Cameron has joined in and she even got Fritz to rub my foot briefly last night. So twice now I’ve gotten a nice hair brushing (useful since my hair has been awful ever since I got pregnant), and foot, face, and shoulder rub. I could get used to this.

Really cute and a little gross

h1 Friday, October 19th, 2007

I’ve been throwing up three or four times a day for the last week. Fritz generally accompanies me to the bathroom no matter what my reason for going in there so he’s had lots of chances to watch me throw up.

He has now started running to the toilet nearly every time as I head into the bathroom. He leans over the toilet and opens his mouth and spits. Then he gets a piece of toilet paper and pats his mouth and drops it in the toilet. After I throw up he pats my mouth with toilet paper, too. Cute, but gross, too.

Morning Sickness

Why do they call it MORNING sickness when it rarely confines itself to the morning?

My Imaginary Duck Family

h1 Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

When I was a little kid my imaginary friends were a family of ducks. There was a mother duck and several ducklings. I remember holding the door open for quite some time waiting for them to all waddle into the house. Who would’ve thought that I’d grow up to become The Mama Duk!

A little trouble with time

h1 Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

This morning Cameron insisted today was Monday. I told him no, it was Tuesday. He kept insisting it was Monday and to prove it he recited the days of the week. And then he told me he knew for a fact it was Monday because tomorrow was Sunday. Oh, boy.

A “Larger” Family

h1 Monday, October 15th, 2007

I recently learned that having three children in the Washington DC area qualifies us as being a “larger” family. We want six kids. I guess that will make us a freak show or something.

I do not think three kids is larger at all. Three kids seems pretty normal to me. I am one of three. Many of my friends growing up were one of three. I have a lot of friends with three kids (of course most of those are at church and Mormons DO tend to have “larger” families).

When I was growing up I had a friend who was the oldest of five. To me, they have a larger family! Another friend was the middle of nine. Their family was big. Three kids… not a big family at all.

I asked Ani and Cameron how many kids they want to have in their own families when they grow up. Ani said she thinks she’d like eight children. Cameron said he’d like “only” ten.

For some reason people tend to react very negatively to baby number 3. Two kids seems to be the “perfect” number. I was told several times when pregnant with Fritz that I was “ruining” my “perfect” family. Never mind we never intended to have only two children. Never mind two wasn’t perfect to us at all. Never mind I am number 3 and so my parents “ruined” their “perfect” family by having me. I can’t imagine not having Fritz.

Perfect is relative. So is larger. I still don’t think three kids is larger. That many is just really, really normal to me.

A letter to Fritz’s molars

h1 Friday, October 12th, 2007

Dear Molars,

I hate you. I know hate is a strong word, but I really do hate you. I hate how you start coming in and then stop for a while prolonging my baby’s pain. I hate how you choose nighttime to do your most movement causing my baby to be restless and unable to sleep.

Sure, it is cute when my baby pats my mouth instead of his own and then makes the sign for hurt. It reminds me that he doesn’t realize we are two different people yet. And why should he? He doesn’t remember that I cut his cord 15 months ago. He just knows that he sees my face all the time and knows it better than his own.

Sure, it’s great that he’s finally getting the teeth that are for eating all those foods he’s been eating just fine anyway without problems for months now. Maybe now I’ll stop having a heart attack when the big kids give him something I deem a choke hazard (he’s never choked yet).

So hurry up. Grow in his mouth and be done. I hate seeing my poor baby in pain and while I am not exhausted at all this pregnancy, I would like to get normal sleep to keep it that way.

Sincerely,
The Mama Duk (who more resembles a Mama Bear when one of her brood is in pain)

Fritz is 15 months old!

h1 Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Fritz is 15 months old today! He is such a delightful little boy. Even when he is having allergy problems or in pain from getting molars, he is still happy. People of all ages tend to be naturally attracted to him. He is just a truly happy little person.

Fritz, 15 months
Yes, that’s a TV remote he’s using as a phone!

He now weighs 22 pounds 2 ounces and is 31 3/4″ tall!
