We read 12 books yesterday. 2 chapter books and 10 children’s books. We started school at 9:45 again this morning.

Warm-up: Ani wrote on the whiteboard “Easter”. In her composition book she wrote “Easter is fun.”

Language Arts: Ani did a page in Spelling Workout B. She read lesson 52 in the McGuffey Second Reader. She did lessons 41, 42, and 43 in First Language Lessons. She did cursive Ee’s on lined paper. Cameron played on StudyDog. I read three chapters of Robinson Crusoe (great illustrated classics) to the kids.

Math: Ani completed lesson 28 of Math-U-See Gamma. She drilled her 10 facts. Cameron completed one page of Math-U-See Primer.

Latin: We memorized the nouns fatherland, breeze, queen, and island.

Religion: I read four pages of the Illustrated Book or Mormon volume 3 to the kids.

History: I read two pages in the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia to the kids. They copied hieroglyphs on a piece of paper to make a scroll. Then we took the scroll and yesterday’s tablet and put water on them and dropped them on the floor and wadded up the paper to show how the tablets would last longer than the scrolls. I read parts of Hieroglyphs and The Mystery of the Hieroglyphs to the kids.

Music History: We read about Chopin in the Classical Composers book. We listened to a waltz by Chopin and a song from Heigh-Ho Mozart in the style of Chopin. I read a biography on Chopin to the kids.

Spanish: Ani played on Rosetta Stone.

We finished school at 12:45. 3 hours total today.

We read 38 books on Friday. Two were chapter books, 36 were children’s books. On Saturday we read 5 book (children’s books). On Sunday we read one book (a chapter book). We started school at 9:45 this morning.

Warm-up: I wrote on the whiteboard “This weekend”. Ani wrote that her grandparents came over.

Language Arts: Ani took a spelling test and did one page in Spelling Workout B. She read lesson 51 in the McGuffey Second Reader. She did lessons 39 and 40 in First Language Lessons. She did a handwriting sheet on cursive Ee. I read About the Author and the first two chapters of Robinson Crusoe (great illustrated classics) to the kids.

Math: Ani watched the video for Math-U-See Gamma lesson 28. She drilled her 9+ math facts.

Latin: We memorized the nouns turning point/goal, page, and dinner.

Religion: I read four pages in the Illustrated Book of Mormon volume 3 to the kids.

History: I read The First Writing in Story of the World volume 1. Ani did a narration on it. We made cuneiform tablets. Cameron drew pictures on his since he can’t spell yet. Ani wrote ANI and MOMMIS (what she calls my mother) in cuneiform on her tablet. I read The Sumerians and Book to the kids.

Piano: Ani did a page each in her lesson book, activity and ear training book, notespeller book, technic book, and theory book.

Spanish: Ani spent some time working in Rosetta Stone.

We finished school at 12:30. 2 hours 45 minutes today.

We read 16 books yesterday. Ani did not want to go to sleep last night so Jamie decided to teach her division. She caught on very quickly. We started school at 10 this morning.

Warm-up: I wrote on the whiteboard “My favorite weather is”. Cameron said summer and Ani said snowing. I found that funny since when I was pregnant with Cameron I could never get warm (not even during the summer!) and when I was pregnant with Ani I was always too hot (even during the winter!).

Language Arts: Ani did a page in Spelling Workout B. She read lesson 49 in the McGuffey Second Reader. She worked on memorizing the poem in lesson 35 of First Language Lessons and completes lessons 36, 37, and 38. She worked in her handwriting notebook connecting some of the cursive letters she has learned. I read the last 4 chapters of Moby Dick (great illustrated classics) to the kids. We started a great illustrated classics review list of all the ones we have read so far (16 of them). We wrote the date we finished reading them and a very brief 1-2 sentence synopsis of the book. Then each of the children gave me their review of the book (I liked it, I hated it, I loved it, etc.).

Math: Ani watched the videos and completed the worksheets for lessons 26 and 27 of Math-U-See Gamma. She did 5+, 6+, 7+, and 8+ drill worksheets.

Latin: Ani led us in the chapter maxim and recited the present tense very endings chant. We learns the nouns road/way, ditch, and table.

Religion: I read four pages of the Illustrated Book of Mormon volume 3 to the kids.

Science: I read What About Weeds in Green Thumbs to the kids. We looked at the pictures of weeds in Wild Green Things in the City. I read A Weed is a Seed to the kids.

Piano: Ani practiced the piano for about 15 minutes.

Spanish: Ani worked in Rosetta Stone for about 15 minutes. She passed the section she has been working on and moved on to the next section. She got 100% of the answers correct today.

We finished school at 1:30. 3 1/2 hours today.

We read 34 books yesterday. 1 chapter book and 33 children’s books. We started school at 8:45 this morning.

Warm-up: I wrote on the whiteboard “My favorite holiday is”. Cameron said his is Halloween. Ani wrote Christmas.

Language Arts: Ani did one page in Spelling Workout B. She read paragraphs 6-9 of lesson 48 in the McGuffey Second Reader (finally finished that lesson). She did lessons 34 and 35 in First Language Lessons. She wrote cursive Dds on lined paper. Cameron played with StudyDog. I read four chapters of Moby Dick (great illustrated classics) to the kids.

Math: Ani completed lesson 25 of Math-U-See Gamma. She drilled the 8+ facts.

Latin: We watched the chapter 2 video. The chapter maxim is the same as the previous chapter. The kids memorized the present tense verb endings chant.

Religion: I read four pages of the Illustrated Book of Mormon volume 3 to the kids.

Science: I read Ladybug at Orchard Avenue, Cicadas, Insects and Crawly Creatures, and Are You a Ladybug? to the kids. We made garlic bug spray and soda bug spray (directions in Green Thumbs).

Art: We read about Thomas Gainsborough. The kids painted a landscape and then drew people to cut out and glue on the landscape background.

Spanish: Ani did numbers 11-20 of Worksheet 1-01 and played in Rosetta Stone for a little while.

We finished school at 2. 5 hours and 15 minutes today. We need to move the computer out of the living room or move where Ani does school. Cameron playing on the computer distracts her way too much.

We started school at 9 this morning. Both kids played with StudyDog before we started.

Warm-up: I wrote “My favorite toy is” on the whiteboard. Ani wrote that her favorite toy is Barbie. Cameron said his is his art kit.

Language Arts: Ani did a misspelled words spelling test and one page in Spelling Workout B. She read paragraphs 3-5 of lesson 48 in the McGuffey Second Reader. She did lesson 33 in First Language Lessons. She wrote a thank you note for a birthday present she got from a friend. She did a handwriting page for the letter Dd. Cameron played with StudyDog. I read chapters 8-10 of Moby Dick (great illustrated classics) aloud to the kids. While I was reading Ani made a flower design using melty beads to send to her friend in his thank you note (he gave her the beads and the flower pattern board).

Math: Ani watched lesson 25 of Math-U-See Gamma and drilled the 7+ facts.

Latin: We reviewed the chapter maxim, amo chant, and vocabulary. Ani completed two activity pages. We have finished chapter one of unit one.

Religion: I read four pages of the Illustrated Book of Mormon volume 3 to the kids.

History: We read about the ancient Egyptians in the Usborne and Kingfisher history books. Ani completed the map work for the chapter and the kids colored a picture of Osiris and Set. The kids made shepherd’s crooks of the Pharaohs.

Piano: Ani reviewed her flash cards.

Spanish: Ani completed numbers 1-10 of worksheet 1-01 and spent some time on Rosetta Stone.

We finished school at 12. 3 hours today.

We started school at 9:30 this morning.

Warm-up: I wrote on the whiteboard “My favorite game is”. Ani wrote tic tac toe.

Language Arts: Ani did a spelling test and one page of Spelling Workout B. She read two paragraphs of lesson 48 in the McGuffey Second Reader. In First Language Lessons she did lessons 31 and 32. I’ve decided to accelerate her on these lessons since she is getting intensely bored with going over and over nouns and she already knows what verbs are (discovered that while doing Latin yesterday). She wrote cursive Ccs on lined paper. She makes very nice Cs. Her cursive is much neater than her printing so far. Cameron did worksheets on the letter E from Starfall.Com. I read four chapters of Moby Dick (great illustrated classics) to the kids. This book is far from one of their favorites.

Math: Ani did the test page for lesson 24 of Math-U-See Gamma. She drilled her 6+ math facts. Cameron did two pages in lesson 7 of Math-U-See Primer.

Latin: We reviewed the chapter maxim, amo chant, and vocabulary words. Ani completed two worksheets.

Religion: I read four pages from the Illustrated Book of Mormon volume 3 to the kids.

History: I read the section on Gods of Ancient Egypt from Story of the World volume 1 to the kids. Ani did a narration of what I had read. She drew a picture of the united crown of Egypt. I read Ancient Egypt My World, Ancient Egyptians, The Ancient Egyptians, and Ms. Frizzle’s Adventure in Ancient Egypt to the kids.

Music History: We read about Brahms’ life in the classical composers book. We listened to Brahms’ Lullaby and another piece off Heigh-Ho Mozart that is a piece by Brahms interwoven with Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins.

Spanish: Ani worked in Rosetta Stone.

We finished school at 1:30. 4 hours today.

We started school at 10 this morning.

Warm-up: Ani had requested the warm-up be “My favorite chore is” so that’s what I wrote on the whiteboard. Cameron said none. Ani wrote brushing her teeth.

Language Arts: Ani did a page in Spelling Workout B. She read lesson 47 in the McGuffey Second Reader. She did lesson 30 in First Language Lessons. She did a handwriting page on cursive Cc. Cameron played on Starfall.Com. He really likes to write down words that he sees on the computer screen on paper. He’s got quite nice printing. I read about the author and the first three chapters of Moby Dick (great illustrated classics) aloud to the kids.

Math: Ani did one page of lesson 24 in Math-U-See Gamma. This adds an overlap day, but I showed her the rest of the lessons in Gamma and three of the remaining six she is really looking forward to because they are “easy” or stuff she already knows. She also drilled her 5+ math facts. Cameron did a page in lesson 6 and three pages of lesson 7 in Math-U-See Primer.

Latin: We reviewed all the memorization page and read and discussed the grammar page for chapter one. Ani completed a worksheet from the student book.

Religion: I read four pages aloud from the Illustrated Book of Mormon volume 3 to the kids.

History: I read the section Two Kingdoms Become One in the Story of the World volume 1. Ani did a narration of it. We made a model of the Nile and flooded the river. Then we made an aluminum foil boat and the kids had fun sailing the boat up and down the Nile. I read Nile River, The Nile River, and Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile to the kids.

Piano: Ani did a page in her lesson book and in her notespeller book. She did two pages in her solo book.

Spanish: Ani worked in Rosetta Stone.

We finished school at 1:30. 3 1/2 hours today.

April 7, 2006

h1 Friday, April 7th, 2006

We started school at 9:45 this morning. Cameron chose not to join us for school today for the most part.

Ani wrote on the whiteboard “A loose tooth”. She then wrote in her composition book about how fun a loose tooth is because the tooth fairy comes and takes it away and leaves money in it’s place.

Language Arts: Ani did one page in Spelling Workout B. She read lesson 45 in her McGuffey Second Reader. She completed lesson 29 of First Language Lessons. She worked in her handwriting notebook connecting Aa, aa, ab, ba, and bb and practiced capital B in cursive. I read the last three chapters of The Three Musketeers (great illustrated classics) aloud.

About this time my friend dropped her two year old off for me to watch while she went to an appointment.

Math: Ani watched the video for lesson 24 of Math-U-See Gamma. She completed drill review worksheets for 0+, 1+, 2+, 3+, and 4+ facts.

Latin: Ani led us in the chapter maxim. She recited the amo chant. We reviewed the vocabulary sets for love, give, enter, work, and tell and the nouns water, story, and gate. We learned the nouns forest and earth.

Religion: I read four pages of the Illustrated Book of Mormon volume 3 aloud.

Science: I read Beans and Peas, Green Beans, and One Bean aloud. Then we put together a seeds in a sack experiment and filled out the first half of an experiment page.

Piano: Ani reviewed her flash cards and practiced playing the piano.

Spanish: Ani spent some time working in Rosetta Stone.

We finished school at 12:15. Total time today was 2 1/2 hours.
