The 11th Article of Faith

h1 December 30th, 2007

Every day as part of school we sing along with one of the primary songs. For the last 9 months we’ve been working on learning the Articles of Faith. We just finished learning the 11th one.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

The Articles of Faith were written by Joseph Smith in response to one of those “But what do you believe” questions. They are simple and basic. I think the eleventh one is my very favorite. It illustrates perfectly and simply in just one sentence what freedom of religion and religious tolerance is.

We worship God in the way we do because our conscience requires us to to. We’d love for everyone in the world to worship Him and be members of our church, too, but that’s not our choice. That is each and every person’s choice to make and it’s okay for them to worship however their conscience dictates, even if that way is very different from our way (or even not at all).
