Allowance
August 28th, 2007
We give our big kids a dollar a week for allowance. They get to keep 70 cents of it to spend. 10 cents goes to tithing, 10 cents goes to their long term savings, and 10 cents goes to the family mission fund (we match those contributions - up to about $7 now - so we’re already able to pay for about 2 hours of Cameron’s mission…). Any money they earn from doing extra chores or whatever they just have to pay 10% to tithing and can keep the rest to spend.
Since we started giving them money we have found, to our surprise, Cameron is a spender and Ani is a saver. If we go to a store and Cameron has money to spend he wants to spend it all. Ani on the other hand barely wants to spend a penny and is very careful in choosing what to buy. I totally would have pegged them to be the opposites of that.
Ani is getting some books in the mail, probably today. I ordered them for her from Amazon so one of them was free (4-for-3 special). We told her since they are books we will pay half and she only has to pay half. For the five books I ordered her she needs to pay $10.48. She has more than enough in her spending money to pay that. But still she somewhat panicked at the thought of spending that much money at once. She relaxed a bit when she realized she’d still have a few dollars left over.
